Bob has spent his career working with Senior Executive Teams and Boards on their most vital strategic and organizational challenges, both as a consultant and as an executive. He is considered one of the world’s leading facilitators, having designed and conducted executive offsites in nineteen countries with companies ranging from Fortune 10 multinationals to German mittelstand family businesses, earning well over 10 million frequent flier miles along the way.
He’s authored two dozen articles for Harvard Business Review, including “Off-Sites That Work”, “Who Really Makes The Big Decisions in Your Company?” and “Leadership Summits That Work”. Bob’s article “When Teams Can’t Decide” is one of HBR’s ‘ten must read’ articles on teams, and his articles have been featured in thirteen HBR collections. His best-selling book, Who’s In The Room? How Great Leaders Structure and Manage the Teams Around Them is in distribution in 12 countries. Simple Sabotage, co-authored with Cary Greene and Rob Galford, was published in Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish.
Bob was a founder and Managing Partner of Accenture, where he helped create the Organization & Change Strategy practice. He joined Accenture from Cap Gemini Sogeti, where he served on the Global Leadership Team, founded the firm’s Corporate Vision and Growth capability and led Gemini’s Strategy practice for the Americas. Bob spent the first decade of his career at the Boston Consulting Group, where he helped start the firm’s Los Angeles office.
His first executive role was leading Strategy and Business Development for The Dial Corporation. He quickly rose to become a Division President of this Fortune 500 company, since acquired by Henkel. A decade later, he took another leave from consulting to head Corporate Strategy for Sears, Roebuck and Co., where he helped guide the largest restructuring in history.
A magna cum laude graduate of Tufts University, Bob earned his MBA at the Yale School of Management, where he was a Graduate Teaching Fellow in marketing and finance.
